Purpose
The Youth Education and Programming committee (YEP) supports Youth Education and Programming with the goal of providing meaningful, quality Jewish education to the children of the Beit Am community. This includes, but is not limited to, Beit Midrash support (which encompasses Jewish studies and Hebrew), B’nai Mitzvah support, holiday programming, and community-building events. The YEP will make recommendations to the Beit Am Board regarding youth education and programming as needed.
Members
The YEP will be composed of at least 6 members, at least 2 of whom will have children currently enrolled in Beit Midrash and 2 who do not have children currently enrolled. The Chair will be appointed by the Beit Am Board President. The Chair will appoint the remaining members in consultation with the Beit Am Board President and the Board member holding the portfolio for Youth Education. The Beit Midrash Principal and the Board member holding the portfolio for Youth Education will be non-voting, ex officio members of the committee. Members will be asked to serve a minimum of a 2-year term.
Roles
The YEP will:
- Consult with the Beit Midrash Principal, Rabbi, B’nai Mitzvah tutors, and other committees on issues that arise regarding curriculum, policies, and procedures in support of a shared vision for strong youth education.
- Recommend goals and strategies for Beit Midrash (which encompasses Jewish studies and Hebrew) in collaboration with the Beit Midrash Principal and Rabbi.
- Recommend goals and strategies for B’nai Mitzvah support, holiday programming, and community-building events in collaboration with the Beit Midrash Principal and Rabbi.
- Advise on the development and distribution of an annual family satisfaction survey and review the results with the Board and Beit Midrash Principal.
- Serve as a channel for family feedback, surfacing broad community themes or concerns for Board or staff attention when appropriate.
- Review tuition rates, scholarship policies, and staff compensation recommendations, as prepared by the Beit Midrash Principal, and provide input to the Board and Treasurer.
- Keep an archive of meeting minutes and survey responses.
- Not be authorized to make explicit or implicit commitments with financial ramifications without the express consent of the Board.
