Tisha B'Av Program on-site and over Zoom

Tisha B’Av—-is it a dream or an experience?

Tisha B’Av aka the 9th day of the month of Av, is the day in the Jewish calendar when, as a people, we collectively dream of a lost home, and simultaneously begin the journey of return.

Together we mourn the  destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem which occurred over 2500 years ago, and led to the exile of our people from Israel and the loss of our spiritual center.

Teshuvah/return is the engine that drives us back home. Through a journey of awareness and forgiveness guided by Jewish ritual, we have opportunity to return to our spiritual core and the wholeness of our being. In this way Tisha B’Av becomes a day of hope as well.

As a community we will start this process on Saturday, August 2nd at 7:00 pm.

After joining together through niggunim (wordless melodies), we will learn together during a study session. We will then daven (pray) Ma’ariv (our evening service), and end by chanting the Book of Eichah (Lamentations) which through chant and word, ground us into the recreation of the experience of losing our home.

In the words of Shlomo Carlebach’s song: “Return again, return again, return to the home of your soul…”

It is time to begin our return home together.
