A brief description of the Hebrew Classes:

HEBREW I: We will be using the award winning program developed by National Jewish Outreach Program ( NJOP ), which is geared for adults with no Hebrew background, and has shown a huge success rate.  Starting with our Hebrew Reading Crash Course Level I, the course is designed for Jews with little or no background in Hebrew and concentrates on teaching the Hebrew alphabet and reading skills. The introductory Level I Hebrew program can teach participants to learn to read Hebrew in as few as 8 (or so) 45 minute sessions.

HEBREW II: NJOP’s Hebrew Reading Crash Course Level II is designed to improve students’ reading skills and fluency by introducing them to special pronunciation rules and basic Hebrew grammar to help them expand their Hebrew comprehension skills. Students will begin to recognize various parts of verbs and nouns, learn how to dissect words, and identify new words and phrases that will enable them to better understand the prayer book.  Level II uses familiar Hebrew prayers as instructional material.

Between the Hebrew classes will be a study session on a Parsha, with discussion and some Talmudic thought.

About the Rabbi

Rabbi Shlomo Krasner is currently the interim Rabbi of Ahavas Torah, in Eugene.  Rabbi Shlomo studied at the Ner Israel Rabbinical College in Baltimore, as well as The Mir Yeshiva in Jerusalem.  He has obtained a Masters in Talmudic Law at Ner Yisroel together with a Teacher's Diploma from Torah Umesorah.  While doing all of that he also earned his MS in Computer Science at Johns Hopkins.

The Rabbi has been teaching Parsha to a group of Beit Am’ers at Avery Park during the summer months.  The classes were so good he was asked to continue during the fall and winter.  He offered to expand the class to include Hebrew 1 & 2.  Everyone jumped at the opportunity.  Rabbi Shlomo is an excellent Rabbi and teacher.  He loves what he does and you can feel it in his classes.
